Joghallgat\u00f3 kor\u00e1ban az <em>Orsz\u00e1g-Vil\u00e1g<\/em> seg\u00e9dszerkeszt\u0151je \u00e9s a <em>F\u0151v\u00e1rosi Lapok<\/em> munkat\u00e1rsa volt. 1896-ban kezdte p\u00e1ly\u00e1j\u00e1t a K\u00f6zponti Statisztikai Hivatalban. 1914-ben annak igazgat\u00f3ja, 1920-t\u00f3l hal\u00e1l\u00e1ig a Kir\u00e1lyi J\u00f3zsef M\u0171egyetem statisztikai tansz\u00e9k\u00e9nek vezet\u0151je. 1922-ben vezet\u0151 szerepet j\u00e1tszott a Magyar Statisztikai T\u00e1rsas\u00e1g megalap\u00edt\u00e1s\u00e1ban, \u00e9s annak els\u0151 eln\u00f6kek\u00e9nt kezdeti m\u0171k\u00f6d\u00e9s\u00e9ben is. 1914-t\u0151l az MTA levelez\u0151, 1924-t\u0151l a Nemzetk\u00f6zi Statisztikai Int\u00e9zet (ISI) rendes tagja. N\u00e9pesed\u00e9si, gazdas\u00e1gstatisztikai \u00e9s elm\u00e9leti k\u00e9rd\u00e9sekkel is foglalkozott, hozz\u00e1j\u00e1rulva a Trianon ut\u00e1ni Magyarorsz\u00e1g gazdas\u00e1gi, statisztikai \u00e9s tudom\u00e1nyos fejl\u0151d\u00e9s\u00e9hez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buday L\u00e1szl\u00f3 <em>A megcsonk\u00edtott Magyarorsz\u00e1g <\/em>c\u00edm\u0171 m\u0171ve az els\u0151 olyan statisztikai alkot\u00e1s, amely az orsz\u00e1g trianoni vesztes\u00e9geit elemzi. A m\u0171v\u00e9ben elemzi, hogy mekkora \u00e9s milyen t\u00edpus\u00fa vesztes\u00e9gek \u00e9rt\u00e9k az orsz\u00e1got a trianoni b\u00e9k\u00e9t k\u00f6vet\u0151en. Abban a t\u00f6rt\u00e9nelmi korban a rev\u00edzi\u00f3 lehet\u0151s\u00e9g\u00e9ben b\u00edzott a szerz\u0151 maga \u00e9s az \u00e1ltal\u00e1nos k\u00f6zhangulat is. \u00c9rdekes gondolatmeneteket vet fel, hogy Buday az 1920-as \u00e9vek statisztikai tudom\u00e1ny\u00e1t haszn\u00e1lta fel, hogy az elk\u00f6vetkez\u0151 \u00e9vek, \u00e9vtizedek probl\u00e9m\u00e1it el\u0151re jelezze.
